THE WVU ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

One of the many vital missions of WVU is the creation of lifetime learners who never stop challenging themselves to be better and smarter. Part of lifetime learning is a lasting connection to and engagement with the great university that began your education for career and life. The WVU Alumni Association is the frontline of that connection and engagement for our more than 180,000 proud alumni.

From that late spring day in 1873 when 16 WVU grads met to form the Alumni Association to the present, WVU alumni have used their association to provide the link to the life of the University, its knowledge and discovery, its students and faculty, its heart and soul. Today, a wide range of programs, activities, communications, networking, and other services sustain and enhance that link. WVU graduates have made lives and careers in every county of West Virginia, every state in the nation, and more than 60 countries around the world. Two things make us an extended community: our Mountaineer education and our WVU Alumni Association.

Through the Association, our alumni community finds a wealth of ways to give back to WVU, from scholarship support of promising students to global outreach for our graduates. As our alumni pool grows, even more will be expected from the Association—more ideas, more programs, more connections. We can and will exceed those expectations—but only with your generosity and commitment.

WVU’s State of Minds is a lifetime opportunity and calling, and your Alumni Association is the connection to that opportunity.

The Trajectory of Success

The WVU Alumni Association’s dues-paying members support important programs and great activities throughout the year. These include Homecoming, the WVU Academy of Distinguished Alumni, and dozens of other social and philanthropic programs that enhance the mission of WVU.

Additionally, our more than 100 registered chapters and constituent groups help to extend the national and global reach of WVU. Our volunteers are aiding in the recruitment of the best and brightest students, performing needed public service in the communities in which they live, serving as powerful advocates for the University, and assisting with career networking and mentoring for both WVU students and fellow alumni.

The beautiful Erickson Alumni Center opened its doors in October 2008 and serves as the home-away-from-home for alumni and friends of WVU. With more than 48,000 sq. ft. of space, this extraordinary facility provides graduates with a place to visit and reminisce with old friends, relax, read one of the books in our alumni library, or simply enjoy the campus scenery. The Erickson Alumni Center provides the physical manifestation of the WVU commitment to our graduates and of the deep alumni connection to WVU.

From the Alumni Association’s scholarship programs and outreach efforts to the warmth and joy of our alumni events, it is vital to WVU that the Alumni Association continues to connect, engage, and educate. None of this, as you already know, can happen without your commitment.
